[KLUG Members] Backing up Mac OS X

Will common linux apps like tar or rsynch back up Mac OS X computers,
along with their meta-data (resource fork, etc.)?

We have a setup that backs up all of a network's computers using TAR and
we've tested the restore capability several times without problem.

But, all the old boxes were versions of Windows or Linux (the server is
Linux, of course). Now they want to add some new Macs to the mix.

I should note that the backups are initiated from the server, we don't
want to be dependent on any apps running on the client machines.

kind regards,

bill
