[KLUG Members] Simply Mepis won't run

Hi,

A few words of introduction. I am a grandmother whose computer has been 
my #1 toy since 1989. I can install all types of applications from the 
OS down, swap out the hardware and kick the software. But I'm not very 
knowledgeable on the guts of the machine.

I've played with Simply Mepis for about a year and a half with my 
longest stint being last three months of last year. Then my motherboard 
died, and I had to buy a new machine.

I have run Simply Mepis 6.0 and earlier on a previous machine, but for 
some reason neither 6 nor 6.6  want to dual boot with Windows 2000 Pro 
(also the system on the previous couputer) on this particular machine.

Instead of a boot menu just the word "Grub" shows up on a black screen.

The main difference I can find is that this machine has a SATA hard 
drive. I also have two standard hard drives. One 40 gig Western Digital 
and a 40 gig Seagate. I have tried installing both Windows and Linux in 
all combinations of the three drives with the same results.
