[KLUG Members] OpenOffice 2.3 update

Just a FYI

An attempted upgrade to Open Office 2.3 hosed my OO installation. I
thought those who haven't updated to 2.3 yet might want to hear a
warning.

I have had Open Office installed on one machine since version 1.0 (an
old RedHat 9 box).

I updated to OO 2.2 some time back.

While running 2.2, it notified me that a new version, 2.3 was available.

So, I went ahead and let it download the new version.

The new version came with a neat script called "setup" which was
executable. So, I ran that.

After it was done, not only did I not have 2.3, I didn't have 2.2 at all
either.

All the options for Open Office 2.x in the start menu in Gnome were gone
too.

The only Open Office I could get to run was a very old 1.0.

Yikes!

I tried several reboots and re-installs. Nothing worked.

I uninstalled 2.3 and found the old RPMS for 2.2 and re-installed those,
as well as the desktop-integration rpm.

Now, I'm back where I started with 2.2 working, just several hours
poorer, and leery of trying 2.3 again.

kind regards,

bill
