The Knoppix 5.1.1 CD or DVD runs NTFS-3G by default
and has no problems with NTFS disks.  Another option
would be to use the file manager built into 7-Zip:
<http://www.7-zip.org> which bypasses most of Windows 
built-in Explorer blocks.  7-Zip is an automatic
install on Windows for me anyway.
