Greetings-

A word of advice: Hold off on Ubuntu 7.10 / Stick with Ubuntu 7.04.

Right away, had problems with Firefox not starting. After some reloads (Yes, I installed over and over again!) even Gnome Terminal would not open!

That turned out to be file system nonsense with the xfs file system...
"Bus error when running Firefox or Epiphany" -> https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/133786
"xfs corruption - Clean install of 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon and applying latest updates" -> https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/179238

Then the Parallels VM environment was not behaving properly... randomly crashing. On my last visit to Parallels' Forum, I heard a tone that 7.10 is shaky whereas 7.04 is stable, so thought to give it
a try.

Clean install of 7.04
All partitions xfs other than /boot which is ext3.
I was able to download the latest Firefox / Thunderbird utilizing: http://ubuntuzilla.wiki.sourceforge.net/
Envy downloads the latest binary drivers for nVidia: http://albertomilone.com/nvidia_scripts1.html
Parallels is working much better.
The entire system and even OS's inside VM's seem noticeably faster.

Thus my recommendation: Hold off on Ubuntu 7.10 / Stick with Ubuntu 7.04.
