I'll bet Brock didn't do that, because he did not know that Synaptic traverses the
whole network of relationships among updates, and the default updater does not.

There's a reason for this: some people install one set of updates, do some testing
then install the next set. This is a good practice (who has the time? people who do
this sort of thing for a living), but most people probably would jump all over the
Synaptic option if they knew about it.
