Try adding these to your config file (or use them respectively from the command line):

zoom = "yes"

or

zoom = "1"

Hopefully, one of those should help.  I believe those options only work with vo=x11.  Try changing your vo from "xv" to "x11" if you don't see any results using "xv" with the entry mentioned above.
