I've been using VMware 4 for awhile, no problems except it gets a little
confused about network adapters (I have vmnet0 bridged to eth0, vmnet1
bridged to eth1, vmnet2 as host-only, and vmnet3 as NAT).  I have to
pick custom and the vmnet device, if I just pick Host-Only/NAT it
doesn't work.

But VMware 4 beats the snot out of Vmware3.  Both faster and a MUCH
nicer interface.  So worth $99
