[KLUG Advocacy] Voting Verification: An Open-Source Opportunity?

I don't know whether this has been sparking any interest in the open
source community (I haven't seen/heard anything), but if there's enough
concern about accountability of computer-based voting systems, this
might be something to look at. New Jersey Representative Rush Holt (D)
has introduced legislation to "Require All Voting Machines To Produce A
Voter-Verified Paper Trail" (http://holt.house.gov/issues2.cfm?id=5996).

Besides requiring this in time for the November 2004 general election,
his legislation also bans the use of 'undisclosed software'. Sounds like
a good opportunity to push for 'disclosed' as in 'open source'?
