May I just say that memtest86 rocks my world... if you suspect
you have any kind of RAM problems on an Intel system, go to
memtest86.com and check it out.  You can install it as a LILO
boot alternative, so you just reboot into memtest86, check your
RAM for however long it takes, then reboot back into Linux.
It's very clever.
