That sounds like LILO, the Linux boot loader. It is interesting that its
value is wrong, as that is indicative of a faulty install (80x25 (columns X
rows) is the IBM PC standard) that may have left X unbootable. But LILO
looks in /etc/lilo.conf, X in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4. It is to the latter
you must look.
