Ever get frustrated by that "segmentation fault" error message, and you
don't know what to do next? Here's a way to get right into compiled
programs, as they run, perhaps even as they fail. Learn to DO something
about that, find out exactly (and we mean exactly) why they fail, and
then fix them! The key to all of this is a good "debugger".

We'll cover a good debugger, by example and demonstration. Sit back and
watch the presenter work with a debugger and compiler to fix a C program
with some intentional (and maybe not-so-intentional!) bugs. Make fun of
his code, and ask questions while the code improves, and maybe later,
too. The go forth and try it at home. We'll even have the buggy code
available on the website; we want you to try this at home!!

Every Linux system has a debugger to match the compilers that are
supplied. With this tool, you'll be able to perform good low-level
changes to all of your software; it's a key to becoming a serious
participant in many software projects, and it unlocks the real power of
having the source code.
