However, the KDE graphical option does not allow for setting 
either the delay or the repeat rate. This is a casualty of using 
a GUI ... part of the (very reasonable) kvetch against MSFT and 
Apple / Mac GUI's. 

I am now running at a very comfortable 500 msec delay and 20 
repeats / second. Thanks for the tips.

I agree, while 'apropos' is a technically correct word, 
something simpler to spell would have been nice, too. I'm too 
lazy to make a link to "like". :-)

Besides, I feel more like a hacker if I do things the hard way 
sometimes :-)
