I looked at these for someone I know,  they actually are quite secure.
The support (or the version I looked at) for interesting protocols like
H.323 stank.  While they have filtering it is very simplistic,  on or
off for certains IP's or certain ports.  The DHCP server is one step
above worthless and doles out nothing but an IP address.  But they do
support port forwarding so you can host services from inside your
network.

I have an old Packard smell running floppyfw, no hard drive, etc...
removing components can reduce power consumption (and noise).  The
Linksys routers I've seen have had a fair amount of fan noise.
