PGP/GPG (Pretty Good Privacy/GNU Privacy Guard)are public key encryption
systems, allowing people to send secure emails, know that only the
intended recipient will be able to read it. It also sets up the
framework for digital signatures and a "web of trust." As normal email
is sent over the internet in the clear, and can be read by nearly anyone
between the sender and recipient fairly easily, it is becoming much more
important. However, cryptography needs to be more widely used to fulfill
it's purpose. In this presentation, I will cover the different types of
cryptography (symmetric/assymetric), how it works(including web of
trust, keyservers, etc.), using GPG, mail clients that support it, and
digital signatures.
