I don't know. I called dhclient-2.2.x directly (not the wrapper), trimmed a
lot of the stuff in the dhclient.conf file, and power cycled the cable
modem. Pick any or all. ;)

There is no hostname necessary. Cable modems are addressable, like set-top
boxes; they know who you are without authentication. Or they can know, at
least.
