Could be you were sending options they didn't understand,  or requiring
information they do not provide.  I'd guess trimming the config file fixed it. 

There are alot of dumb DHCP servers out and about in the world.  And in there
defense,  if I were building a DHCP server to support a horde of wild, woolly,
and unmaintained Win9x boxes,  I'd build as stupid a box as possible for fear of
confusing the clients that can't spell s-e-r-v-i-c-e-p-a-c-k.

Yes, DSL "modems" are the same way.  But that doesn't stop DSL providers from
dreaming up bizzare (PPPoe, PPTP/ADSL) schemes for excersising some type of
phantasmal feeling of control over their network.
