my netgear 16bit card pulls 4-6 MB/s on a congested lotso-collisions
non-swithed network ... my notebook is a little too old to have cardbus...
ummm this is with it's windows driver though..... (and talking about actual
FTP throughput across the lan.. so after TCP/IP overhead and stuff) .....
always had good luck with netgear cards... all of their network equipment
i've used actually... under any OS (various versions of windows... various
versions of linux... FreeBSD.. BeOS r4.5... )

the inexpensive netgear PCI cards are tulip cards.... but dont change every
few months without telling anyone.. unlike a certaint other network equip.
company *cough*linksys*cough* and are a hellalot faster with less CPU
utilization than Dlink crap and costs between the same and 5 dollars more...
(the dlinks use RT8139.... icky!!)

umm yeah... my linksys PCMIA card worked alright... not as well as the
netgear though.. i only replaced it because i tripped over the net cable and
ripped it out of the notebook at a funny angle destroying the dongle and
damaging the dongle connector.. and just a new dongle would have cost 15-20
shipped.. and even then i didn't know if the card survived... and the
netgear was on sale for 35 dollars at worstbuy...

so umm yeah... this thread seems to be getting a little OT.. doesn't it??

Jeff
