Jeff Palmer wrote the following and piqued my curiosity:

I am using RT8139 and have had no problems in since installation (several 
months) that could be attributed to either the cards or the drivers. What 
I would like to know is how to measure throughput across my home lan. 

Yes, I am clueless and lost in a large galaxy with no direction home and 
only 37 cents for bus fare. Clue me in, if you will.
