I am working through some reference books on linux and want to learn the unix
language. In order to be able to experiment with partitioning, filesystems
and generally use commands that might cause problems on my daily use machine,
I was thinking of getting one of the tired old pc's out of the office
junkyard and setting it up with linux and using it as a command line only (no
GUI) machine for learning purposes.

I found one at work that is pretty minimalist. 8M RAM, 66 Mhz 486 DX2, 325
MB HD, modem, floppy, no CD. Thats it.

For the purpose of learning unix, is it worth my time to try to get this
machine running linux? I would just want a very basic text only system,
maybe not even a mouse. It would be something that I could try out commands
and make mistakes on and not lose anything valuable.

Thanks!
