What version of Gnumeric is this? Up until VERY recently Gnumeric did not
suppoert true type fonts, which it finally achieved via integration with
gnome-print (the GNOME print API, of sorts). The gnumeric that shipped
with RH7.1 should be considered old. Ximian ships gnumeric-0.67-ximian.1
which is newer.

Current version is 0.70, go to
http://www.rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/search.php?query=gnumeric

A changelog for gnueric can be found at:
http://cvs.gnome.org/lxr/source/gnumeric/ChangeLog

But you will need a very current machine to run anything newer than what
Ximian provides, so if your not running Ximian I'd try that and see if
the fonts work better, there.

Gnumeric developement is currently fast-n-furious as they are pushing for
a 1.0 release to closely track the release of GNOME 2.0.
