I just completed an fresh install of BSware #16 on a spare machine.
I selected the "Workstation" / "Gnome" default install.
After the install, I started gnumeric from the menu without a problem.
I also started gnumeric from a terminal window without a problem and
without even a warning message.
I didn't use it much, other than to look at the menus (all fine).
I have no idea what you did differently. Let me know if you'd like
me to try anything else on this machine before I blow it away.
