Bill,

Have you considered using an index page for the different groupings of
thumbnails? You would link to several different pages containing those
thumbnails. This would really reduce the initial download time for
dial-up visitors when they hit your site. Even further yet, you could
create a text based index page as the primary site with a well defined
link to a graphical index page for higher bandwidth visitors. Use the
alternative text for each picture as your text link. (more work though,
but good practice to have within your web pages). Also, time the
download using dial-up, or calculate it for 56Kbps, and put that
information on the primary index page. I see this on the 'Net sometimes.
This way you let the visitor's choose their method of viewing the
content.

Personally, I frequently turn off graphics while "speed" searching the
'Net for information. The Opera browser allows me to do this with a
single click and when in Linux, lynx is my first choice. So, if there
is no alternative text, visitor's in text mode, or those using special
browsers, may not understand a web site's content.

My $00.10 worth (with inflation),
