Retailer picks Linux for point-of-sale
Case study: Burlington Coat Factory is a pioneer among large retailers
that are turning to Linux-powered point-of-sale systems for security,
stability, and cost savings. The Burlington, N.J.-based retail chain
upgraded to Wincor Nixdorf's Linux-based BEETLE/S POS system, running
under Red Hat Linux 7.1. Why Linux? CIO Mike Prince found Linux to be
faster and less expensive than dedicated POS systems, yet more stable
and secure than Windows-based options. Has your company migrated
mission-critical applications to Linux?
