Thanks for the help, guys! It's still not there, but getting closer, I think. 
It looks like the iptables package IS installed, but I still can't seem to 
get it to run. A little digging around in 'make xconfig' as mentioned above 
showed that I did NOT in fact have the needed options enabled. So far I've 
turned on Network Packet Filtering (hey, who knew?) but that doesn't seem to 
have fixed it yet. At the moment, I'm looking over IP: Netfilter 
Configuration to see what I need to turn on in there. Looks like THAT's where 
iptables support is provided, so we'll see what that gets me. Anyway, just 
thought I'd post a little update, and hopefully I'll have things working soon.
