One of the most useful tools in securing and troubleshooting a
UNIX/Linux system are the logs. Tonight, we'll cover how syslog, the
messaging daemon, manages your log messages and how to create automated
responses to specific messages. We'll also cover the log files of common
applications such as Samba and HTTP, as well as the dmesg.
