Thanks for the replies, I need to clarify one question.

If I have a local directory with files in it, and I smbmount with that directory
as the mounting point, I don't see that I have -any- access to them.  I did it
by accident once and thought I lost the files.  Upon smbumount-ing I saw they
were still there.  What (or where) is they're status while the share is mounted?
