[KLUG Members] An off-shoot IPX/SPX question...

IPX is supported in Linux, though anytime I've used it it had an "add-on hack" feel to the whole thing. I don't know of a modern distro that's setup to handle IPX well, so all your startup scripts become mangled and such. I'd avoid it unless you need to mount Netware shares via IPX and have a strong reason not to move off Netware.

I can't really speak about security of Netware shares vs. SMB/CIFS shares to be honest. I wouldn't trust either one outside of a firewall though. Heck, NFS outside of a firewall is considered bad mo-jo.

Subject: [KLUG Members] An off-shoot IPX/SPX question...

Hi all,

My boss seems to think that there's a way to setup Linux machines to communicate with Windows via IPX/SPX using a Netware machine as a go-between. He seems to think it might be safer, security-wise, instead of establishing a Samba share. I tend to disagree, seeing as though if you're behind a sensitive firewall, you really don't have much to worry about.

If any of you can help me difuse his argument, please do so. Any and all info would greatly appreciated.

Tx!
