The welcome message is "canned", unmolested by us.

We have the monthly password reminder turned OFF in the config of all
our mailing lists.  We decided to do it that way because we thought
those messages would get annoying.

You can manage your account with your password like other Mailman lists.
If you forget your password, the list will email it to you upon request.

If people would like the monthly reminder turned on, we can do that. 
Have yourself and at least 112 other members of the list (half) email us
_privately_.  (a couple hundred replies to this list would get really
annoying, and will void your vote as quick as a hanging chad!!! :)
