I assume the chipset is using UMA (unified memory architecture) to avoid
having to put dedicated VRAM memory on-board.

As such, you need to _reserve_ at the LILO prompt the amount of memory
reserved in the BIOS for VRAM.

E.g., if you have 256MB or RAM, and the video is setup for 16MB:
   LILO: linux mem=240MB

You might want to "shave off" another 1-2MB "just in case" (e.g., 238MB)
some is used for shadow RAM or other.

RedHat 7.1+ includes Athlon-optimized RPMs and they are installed.

BTW, don't forget to use the "mem=nopentium" option as well to prevent
the Athlon from using 4MB paging (instead of 4KB paging). Long story on
that one, but the stock 2.4.18 kernel is supposed to have the
workaround.

MSWord is not even a "proprietary standard." That would
require it to be fully compatible with itself, let alone
other products from the same vendor (e.g., MSPublisher).
