Okay, I think you are missing my point. You missed my note of
'There are some "tricks" you can play with either the BIOS'.

Windows can only boot off of the drive that is assigned BIOS fixed disk
0x80.  If your first fixed disk is on a latter channel, or you "hide"
your other drives before it in the BIOS, it gets assigned BIOS 0x80.

You can also use LILO (GRUB as well?) to reassign what drive is BIOS
0x80.  You can also use some boot managers to do the same.
