Sorry if you have already read this, but I'm not sure I sent it OK.

My SmoothWall (0.9.9 Special Edition iso) box is a Gateway 486DX2-66
that has a been upgraded to 100MHz (Evergreen chip), with 64MB of
memory, a 170MB Conner hard drive, and an external USRobotics Sportster
56K Faxmodem (model 00568600). 

I have used this exact modem to connect Win95, Win98, NT 4.0, and W2K
systems to the Internet, and they always connect just fine. I can just
move the modem cable to my current W2K box to connect OK (usually at
49.2k), or the SmoothWall box to fail. 

It looks like it has something to with LCP (Link Control Protocol)
extensions???? (But, LCP is ON under Windows.)
