Disclaimer: I've never run VMware on Windows. I believe the base OS
should be the most stable one, so I run VMware on Linux and install
Windows in a virtual machine. I take no responsibility if my advice
causes data loss or any other problems! :-)

So, _assuming_ things work the same way for VMware on Windows, as they
do for VMware on Linux:

As long as you're installing to a VIRTUAL DISK (not a physical hard
drive or partition) you should be safe to take the defaults for grub
(or lilo). A virtual disk is really just a file inside your normal
filesystem that appears to be it's own disk to the guest OS.
