I'm assuming it builds okay with Ximian installed.  Or does it
require a lot of additional support downloads?

- RedHat Rawhide?

I know Rawhide is pushing towards GCC 3.0x, but I've usually found
rebuilding (with RH 7.x / GCC 2.96) works fine.
