The other network instructor here says that he went
through WMIS to get his dsl. He has to pay an extra
$10 a month from what the Ameritech costs are but he
says that he has not had any problems yet. He was
told that they do not block any ports etc etc etc. He
has not tried anything fancy yet but says that if
there is a problem that they said just to call them
and they would make sure that it is opened up.

To bad I live in Sparta. Cable modem is my only
option up there currently. So sad :-( ... I had DSL
when I lived in Conklin and Verizon was my phone
company. I wish I had it back. Such is life.
I do have to admit that the connection of Linux to the
Verizon DSL was not nearly as clean as my connection
to the Cable Modem though. The only thing I really
hate about the Cable is the ports that are blocked.

One of my students now works second level tech support
at Charter. She says that they block the ports
because they way overbook the bandwidth and that they
would not be able to handle the load if there were a
number of servers on the line.
