So, this DSL offer with Ameritech sounds pretty good so far. They don't
"support" Linux though. What software, then, would I need to use on my
Redhat 7.2 machine to work with the modem?
Details:
They'll provide the modem, an Efficient Speedstream 5360.
It will hook up via cat5 to an ethernet PCI card (which they'll
provide).
Dynamic IP, 768kbs bandwidth
So far, it looks like no port filtering
General:
For $30/month you "sign up" for a years worth of service, after which it
goes to the normal rate of $50/month. Self-install means no set-up
fee. The $30/month isn't available to all customers. 30 day
cancellation policy, after that there's a charge for cancellation.
Static IP, which I'd like but don't need, would bump the price to
$80/month, not worth it to me.
I'd like to have my linux box ready when things arrive, so what would I
use to make the dsl connection, the functional equivalent of a PPP
dialer?
