Do you have "Legacy" USB support turned on in your BIOS?  This makes USB
mices and keyboards show up as PS/2 mices and keyboards for use with
'Legacy' OSs.

Actually I though HID showed up as /dev/usb/mice

Are you sure it isn't a PS/2 mouse? :)
