Hi, FOlks,

I've been fooling with a two-computer net, both LINUX, to learn more
about networks, using an older hub given to me by the school on whose
near-giveaway 75MHz machines I installed RH 6.2. I thought the hub was
working
but could get no joy. So I bought a crossover cable and found that now
I could
ping. Lots of trouble getting anything else to work. Just got NFS to
work
so that I can mount a directory on a remote computer and transfer files,
etc.

HOWEVER, I still cannot get ftp or telnet to work, getting a no
permission
error in either direction. I'm sure I've missed something. Is there a
specific
daemon I should insert into my hosts.allow file to make ftp and telnet
accessible?

In addition, since I now have no working hub, can anyone suggest a cheap
hub I can
acquire to further my explorations? I hope to have a hub with a
firewall computer
connecting to the internet as my next step.
