[KLUG Members] linux kde recovery help needed

My linux box will boot, and I can log on as root, but I cannot login as any 
other user.  After login, the kde process starts and runs for a couple of 
seconds and then seems to abort and go back to the login screen.  In root I 
can look at and open the other user file directories.

Can anyone give me some clues as to how to recover from this problem, or 
point me to a web resource that describes the procedure for trying to recover 
from this type of problem?
