I tried running servers on AMD K6 & K6-2 hardware on a couple of
occasions and I'd strongly disagree,  but since that is pretty old stuff
at this point it doesn't much matter. 

We had to raise the core voltage beyond the rated value in order to get
uptime of more than 48 hours,  we had memory corruption (seg faults) on
multiple machines, etc...  Dropping in Intel chips solved the problems.

Competition is good, that is an Open Source motto.   I wonder what ever
became of Cyrix?

The presence of KDE just gives incentive for GNOME to get better and
better. :)
