>OK, all other things equal what are the benefits of using CIFS over
>Samba? How would one go about doing this?

Er? CIFS=SMB=Samba

CIFS (Common Internet Filesystem) is a marketroid name for SMB that Microsloth
came up with in a short-lived attempt to make SMB an Internet standard (Hah!).
They even said it could be used to replace HTTP! Of course, that was so absurd
they got rode out of town on a rail. People like me still call SMB, CIFS -
because we like the name better, it is easier to say AND sounds a little like a
brain-wasting sexually transmitted disease, which itself is a bit like the SMB
protocol.
