My favorite. 100% standards-based mail client, from age-old
SMTP/POP3/IMAP4 to the _only_ free (both beer and/or speech) client that
does _full_ vCard (and better than anyone else IMHO) _and_ vCalendar.

Never used, although Mutt is the king of CLI.

1.1 and 1.2a also have add-ons that add Calendaring ("beta" 0.8 in 1.1,
"release" 1.0 for 1.2a -- funny, since 1.2a is "beta" ;-).

Although it's not vCalendar (attachment-based) or iCalendar (FTP/HTTP
publication), it uses the iPlanet approach that Apple is also adopting.

Evolution and Mozilla support POP-SSL and IMAP-SSL.

As far as the server, I though Cyrus does SSL natively but I've never
tried it. Alternatively, you can "wrap" any port in SSL via the
"stunnel" command. I've used it with regular WU-POP and it worked
perfectly for me.
