When it does you should be able to upgrade.  Currently I think RedHat is a
little farther along the GNOME curve than Ximian (although I'm *certain* Ximian
2.0 will herald spectacular things).

It depends.  I'd recommend, if you do it, you wipe and re-install rh8.0 in order
to switch to LVM.  And the rh8 upgrade can get churlish about the presence of so
many third part packages (Ximian).

My impression of rh8 (which is GNOME 2, where Ximian is GNOME 1.4) is that the
UI is much more polished,  I like the theme, and the menus are arranged in a
much more user friendly manner.  They really spent time getting the font config
just right and the list of supported printers is excellent.  They've button
together several things that I've cobbled together with the Ximian development
snapshots (GNOME 2). 

It remains to be seen if I remove Open Office, and put in Star Office, if the
integration will remain intact.

I intend to wipe my workstation soon, as this is very nice.
