Good to know I'm not alone.

And one can move an entire filesystem live from one physical volume to
another! Thats handy, add some faster disks in the RAID pack, add
them to the vg, move the filesystem, remove the old drives from the vg,
yank em. You can swap out all your drives one a running system, which
is just too cool. Then grow them, since the new disks are probably
bigger.

Also fun is to setup a VG on a drive or two in an external cabinet, and
move the cabinet between machines (home & work), just import the vg to
get access to all the filesystems, no diddling with "what was sdf3
again?"
