[KLUG Members] DNS (bind) question

I bit the bullet and decided to set-up my own DNS server.

Before I go and set-up my secondary server I want clear up a question I
had.

If the computer is DNS server do I still need to point to a different
Primary and secondary DNS servers.  Seems like a silly question but it
makes since to me that if the box is has dns configure it should be able
to handle its own DNS.  Well I have my resolv.conf file has two lines:

search domainname.com
nameserver 127.0.0.1
 
Well it resolves all my servers but no others. 

Any ideas?

Also after I get this working the next step is to register my domain. 
Any suggestion on registrar's?
