Actually make sure to tell him to use the linux fdisk. The DOS/Windows
fdisk will not be able to remove all of the partitions. I have had this
problem before. If this is not possible there is a DOS/Windows utility
called Norton DiskEdit that you can use to clear the partitions.

Q. how if the disk is not bootable?
A. By removing the jumpers from the front of the drive and making it a
slave on a system that has these tools. Or for the DOS version by
booting from a floppy with the program.

If this is not accessible there is a debug command that will clear that
memory location and then write it to disk (VERY DANGEROUS).

DEBUG is a program that comes with DOS/Windows and you can find it in
the /windows/command directory.

If you need the exact command then ask and I will figure it out.

Subject: [KLUG Members] Uninstalling RH 7.3

Hi All,

I have a friend who has given up trying to learn linux (his loss) and
who now wants to uninstall Red Hat 7.3 and install a fresh version of
Windows XP, which is a really, REALLY bad idea if you ask me....

I, myself, have never done a RH uninstall before (who would?) and so I
turn to you for advice. He said he'd just fdisk the drive but I think
he'll have to unload GRUB first. Am I right in making this assumption?
Or is there something else he has to do?

Any and all advice is GREATLY appreciated.
