If your just talking about single-sign on for file shares WinXX provides
that out-of-the box.

Samba provides that.  If you want single-sign-on to Squid / Intranet /
IMAP / etc... as well then you need to look at something like Kerberos.

Many do.  A basic Samba configuration will get you almost all the way
there.

The Samba HOWTO includes a section on creating a Samba PDC, which is
step #1, no matter what route you choose.
