You've got the "pain" part right!  For example, today Redhat/Fedora
released new kernels.  I'm thinking that I need to find ALSA drivers for
them, but they won't be RPM's available for download anywhere for a few
days.  So I'll end up compiling the kernel modules myself, again ...
It might be easier to switch to SuSE instead!

One minor downside of SuSE 9 is Gnome is version 2.2.  Fedora has 2.4.
But I figure that if that becomes a issue, I'll install Ximian gnome.
(so far it's not an issue for me)

I have a problem with their new business model too.

I don't mind paying for a quality distribution (I bought SuSE 9.0 pro),
but I _do_ mind paying for updates.  That's where RH blew it for me.
(Fedora has other issues)
