As far as I can tell, you have two boxes throwing email around. Your
antivirus box isn't getting the alerts out the door. Depending on the
MTA you're using, I would configure it to use your proper mail server as
a smarthost even for all local addresses. I know eximconfig has this
option, not sure about other emailers.

MX records are only used for redirecting mail, or for listing multiple
servers for a given domain. They are not necessary as long as the domain
itself resolves to the proper address on the sending box.
