I've seen it, and tried Toshiba/LCD/VESA 1024x768 screens. THE TEST
WORKS!!! Then when X restarts it looks a squirrely like the hfreq is
wrong.

He isn't crazy, I saw it do this - WIERD! Oddly at 800x600 the screen
is centered in the 1024x768 panel and the mouse works. Login/logout and
the screen is full size but one can't see the mouse. Reboot and it
works again.

I've seen this on a server at work I've setup SuSe on. No matter what -
I did save multiple times - the display manager would not switch. I
zapped X (Ctrl-Alt-Backspace), killall -15 X, etc... and the display
manager just came back up as kdm (when I'd picked gdm). Rebooted and
there was gdm.....
